If you are one of millions of Canadians who struggle with weight loss, you may be surprised to learn this new trick. Weight loss through higher nutrient density consumption can help you turn the corner. This doesn’t mean taking handfuls of supplements and multivitamins either. While a supplement or two can assist with burning fat or increasing your metabolism, there isn’t a magic pill that has been invented yet that can reverse bad eating habits sorry to say.
Therefore, the only way to effect permanent weight loss is to do more of the “good” things and less of the bad. This is where vegetables come in. There is a growing number of highly competitive vegan athletes around the world these days. This is testimony that not only can you survive on a non-animal food diet, some can thrive on it. The reality for most of us though is we won’t ever be vegan or even vegetarian. This means the majority of us should do all we can to eat MORE raw vegetables for improved weight loss and overall health.
Here are a few ideas for helping you incorporate more whole raw foods into your daily routine:
- Make green drinks for breakfast. These can be any combination you choose of vegetables, fruit, juice and even Whey Protein if you want added protein. If you do this would technically be vegetarian but not vegan. Do your best to use more vegetables than fruit and use as many different colors as you can. A variety of colors can assure you get all the essential amino acids for protein without having to add anything else.
- Eat more salads that focus on a variety of colored vegetables and avoid dressings that typically contain sugar. An oil and vinegar dressing is with black pepper and Himalayan pink salt is a better choice. Avocado is great to make a creamy texture if you are used to dressings like ranch or blue cheese.
- Eat some type of vegetable with every meal and for snacks. If you have scrambled eggs in the morning, add scallions or spinach for instance. Putting lettuce on your sandwich and having a salad or stir fried vegetables with dinner is good practice. For snacks, carrots, bell pepper, broccoli, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes and pickled veggies are great.
